An employee of an engineering company studying traffic on Farmington Road Thursday morning was hit and killed by a motorist.

Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says 28–year old David Kim of Chicago was pronounced dead just before six a.m. at the intersection of Farmington and Cramer Roads.

Kim was on the job as a traffic–count–collector for Terra Engineering out of Chicago when he was hit.

Ingersoll says Kim was standing in the west bound lanes. His pick–up truck with its flashers on was on the side of the road and Kim was wearing proper reflective clothing.

The coroner says Donald Young, Junior, of Avon was traveling eastbound on Farmington, went around Kim's truck and hit him.
The accident happened about two miles east of Farmington.

Peoria County Sheriff's Police are investigating. An autopsy is planned for Thursday afternoon.

I cannot believe some of the comments that I see here. IDOT sent Dave out early in the morning to set counters out. They do this in order to prevent too much traffic. According to all news accounts that have been out David Kim followed IDOT procedures. It was IDOT who had him out there since 2:30am according to one mews source. His truck was blinking with its lights. THIS WOULD BE ENOUGH TO TELL A DRIVER THAT A WORKER WAS WORKING ON THE ROAD. The driver IGNORED it and caused Dave's death.

Who's to say he was speeding or did anything wrong? I was always taught if a vehicle is on the side of the road I should move over as far as possible. I sure wouldnt expect someone from that vehicle to be in the opposite lane. This is just a tragic accident. People should not pass judgement on Don. He is one of the most caring men I know. I know he is hurting now along with the other family.

Yes this is Mr HAHA back. Don't call me an idiot or moron. If there is no helmet law in IL, THEN MAKE ONE. What the hell is worse driving with no seatbelt or driving with no helmet? Which is more unsafe? Lets be serious people and stop acting like you all are PERFECT and don't make driving mistakes. I don't care how clean your driving record is. You've still make plenty of mistakes but just been LUCKY. Thank you Mr Anonymous for your comment.

Mr HaHa Helmets are not required by law, Tickets should be wrote , fines high and people JAILED ! Accidents do happen YES .most can be avoided if people would put a foot a the brake instead of the gas pedal when workers are present !

I have a ? why don't the police write motorcycle drivers NO HELMET tickets?? They write a BUNCH of seatbelt tickets. Now which is worse?? Cmon cops write them NO HELMENT tickets if it is all about SAFETY.

A BAD accident. Don't mean to sound hard hearted but one question . Why did the state send someone from Chicago clear down here to do this work? I just can't see the logic in doing that but thats the state for you.If it had been someone from this area doing the work they would have known how bad the people drive on this road.

Shut up Phil, you're an idiot. Everything is always the cops fault...This was a terrible ACCIDENT. Leave it at that. An unfortunate man lost his life and another no doubt feels horrible. Kids and adults both drive like idiots at any given time. The cops can't be everywhere Phil...And I'll bet you would be the first to whine about "speed traps" and "quotas" if you got a ticket for speeding.

my question is why wasnt the guy who got hit also cautious it was dark out when he saw lights coming around the IDOT vehicle why didnt he step to the side of the road i do belive that both are in fault. in all construction situations there is always two people one to work and one to watch the same with most outdoor activities two heads are smarter than one and you got someone to cover your back but everyone does need to slow down

My thoughts are with all involved. This is truly a terrible thing thats happened. Its funny how adults are so quick to blame teenagers when something bad happens. It happens time and time again in these comments. You see more adults driving like sh**. Lets not even start on old people. Where do you think teens learn to drive. By watching their parents. Children are very observant and at a young age too. Phil, shut up, speed up, or move over.

I was good friends with David back in college. I would appreciate it if people stopped calling him an idiot worker. He was a kind, intelligent, funny (very goofy at times), and caring person. It's not his fault that he had to be out there at 5:30 AM. Please pray for him and his family, and all of us who loved him and were touched by his presence. Of course, also to Donald and his family and friends. Thank you.

I live on this road just outside of Farmigton. I have called Peoria County to complain about people driving like idiots (and passing the bus as my children get on). The County officer that responded to my complaint said that since we are 20 miles from the jail we "get overlooked". While I appreciate his honestly but it irritates me as I pay taxes just like the people who live closer to the jail.

Hey (SHUTUP) I bet that your one of the people that ride someone's a-- if they don't run faster then the speed limit. I drive the speed limit does that give someone the right to cuss me out because I don't drive like a fricking Idiot. 116 is a race track that needs to have cops on it all the time so we don't have the people passing four five six cars at a time at intersections and such. I feel for the both of these familys as this will be on there mind for along time. I HOPE THE COPS READ THIS.

This accident happened right in front of my house. Donald the driver ended up in our driveway a little before 6 am scared to death that he had hit this poor man. He stayed in our driveway for about 45 minutes until a cop arrived to take his statement. He felt SICK to DEATH. To my knowledge he looked like a decent man that did not see the IDOT worker in the road. My heart goes out to both. A tragic incedent! There were no signs up that there was a worker ahead.

Reading the comments that are posted just drives me nuts. I too travel this road 6 days a wk twice a day. But guess what you drive anywhere there is a risk. And this was not a high school kid who hit this young man. I too on my way to work may pass, if you cant atleast go the speed limit get the frick out of the way. Those people can just as easily cause an accident. 40 in a 55 makes me crazy. Pray for both families involved. THATS WHAT IS IMPORTANT HERE. Yes both. People can be such jerks.

Maybe you should not pull onto the highway in front of others. This happens to me every morning on that road. I drive the speed limit, but have to stomp onthe brakes to slow down to 20-30 mph because someone just blatantly pulls out right in front of me. I hate that road!

It all starts with the young drivers, BUT, here is what you see from the 20-30X year old drivers, they show the younger drivers, hey act stupid, drive fast, talk on the celphone, don't stop at Stop Signs, and it goes on, SO WHY THE Hxxx, do you think the High School kids are going to be different. Yes, this accident will cause him to loose his license or should, and carry a fine. Does that fix the problem, no way, Dad pays the fine, youg lad rides to school with his other idiot driving buddy's.

No one in their right mind would stand on Farmington road at 5:45 AM in the dark and rain. The signage in that area has been up for weeks with no workers around. It looked like it was just left there. Yellow flashers are for caution not "stop" or "worker ahead". The kid should have been paying more attention to his actions on such a bussy road.

I think it's time that the state and county police start patroling and writing tickets in this area. I've also had young kids pass me on this road going at least 70 mph.
