Bands from all over Illinois are marching around the village of Metamora Saturday.

28 marching bands were invited to participate in Metamora's 29th annual parade and field invitational.

The Metamora classic showcases the pageantry arts including different blends of artistic movement, and musical styles.

Nearly 5-thousand out-of-towners are expected to travel to Metamora for the event.

The El Paso/Gridley Band Director explains why it's such an honor to participate.

El Paso/Gridley Band Director Christi Lohrberg says, "They get a chance to go out and represent their school they've spent a lot of time putting the show together and perfecting it and they still have a lot of work to do and it's important for them to experience the reward of performing together and also to know that everyone back at school is being represented by them here."

The event concludes with the Metamora Marching Redbirds taking the field at 9-30 Saturday evening.

Also, to the concerned Metamora resident...streets are blocked off for the safety of the participants. Ham operators and other volunteers do not prohibit the use of the streets for ANY emergency...medical or otherwise for the hour it is being used

Yes, hats off to all the wonderful Ham radio operators that assisted through out the day, and also to the other 200 volunteers that make this such a success! Metamora has a wonderful reputation for hosting such a well organized and hospitably invitational.

Just hope that none of the people that live in Metamora and near the high school gets sick and has to go to the hospital. The way they got the roads block off and the crowds and the way the people park their cars up and down the streets in Metamora. They are going to have a hard time getting there. I can just imagine the size of the law suit against the Metamora high school and Township

Dear "Canton Resident", Teachers are the adults and need to rememeber how to choose their words.....they have the power to inspire or DESTORY someones dreams or love of music in this case........Also,Why are you hiding behind "Canton Resident" instead of including your Name? Yes the comment was rude...hopefully the teacher will learn and grow from this..and own up to the poor choice of wording to the band.

It's great that the bands are getting some news coverage. It hasn't always been that way. Not to mention EPGHS is a sharp looking 1A band. They have really been building for the last 6 years or so. I think that the past few directors have left a good tradition to build on for Mrs. Lohrberg. As for word choice...she will learn. The operative word being, learn. Teachers have to show their students that they are always working to be better as well. It's the thirst for knowledge we must pass on!

Yeah, we do have a lot to work on. But she does as well. Sachel, I agree with you 100%. She rips on the drumline every day in reheasal, and percussion has won first in our division for both of the competitions we've had. I just wanted to point that out.

I feel it wasn't a completely appropriate comment. I 100% support her sating that to her band, however it is a little out of place to say to a news crew, especially they way she worded it. "THEY still have a lot of work to do" I think WE may have been more appropriate there. Seeing she is a 1st year teacher, she probably has some things to work on as well.

To Wade why would you say how dare the teacher make the comment "They need more work" ? That was a Teacher does , she didn't by any means in my eyes make a rude comment. We have a first year Teacher in Canton and our kids need work also. But she by far is doing way better than last years Teacher !

Congrats to the young men and women who played their best even though the teacher said they needed more work. How dare she say something like that to the news team.
