Peoria Heights Fire Receives ALS Certification

Volunteer firefighters in Peoria Heights are now better equipped to save lives after Tuesday night.

The Fire Department received its Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification at the village's board meeting.

Now the department's paramedics can perform more advanced life saving measures, where before they would have to call for an ambulance service.

The firefighters say this will improve their service to the community.

"It changes the amount of drugs we can give, and now that we can provide more advanced procedures, it will mean a lot when time is an issue," said Kenny Martin, the department's ambulance administrator.

Peoria Heights is the only volunteer fire department in the county to ever receive this certification.
