H1N1 in a Peoria County School

Parents of Junior High students in Chillicothe are voicing their concern tonight after receiving a letter from the school about a case of the H1N1 flu virus.

The school superintendent says the students' health and well being is his top concern.

Superintendent Nick Polyak says the school is working with local and state health offices to monitor the situation.

He says the testing for the H1N1 took about a week to confirm and in this case, the ill student had already fully recovered and has returned to school.

Polyak says the Chillicothe schools have taken every precaution to keep children healthy and in class.

"Our cleaning company that comes in every night, part of our plan for this year is they have been disinfecting student desktops, chair–backs, and major touch point areas throughout the schools, that would include door knobs and drinking fountains...anything that's common where multiple students may touch," said Superintendent Polyak.

The superintendent says parents should keep their child home from school if he or she shows any flu symptoms and contact your doctor and the school.

The Peoria City/County Health Department will give a public presentation on H1N1 virus in the Peoria Heights Grade School gym at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 5th.

To be exact, "five different flu viruses: North American swine influenza, North American avian influenza, human influenza, and two swine influenza viruses typically found in Asia and Europe."

This flu is a mix of pig, bird and human flu viruses. So, there is a swine link, but you will not get it by eating pork. However, WEEK isn't implying that either.

A direct link between the swine flu and pigs has not been established. WEEK News, you should change the picture on this article. It is very misleading. You can not get swine flu from eating pork.
