Linda Maricle will never forget the fire that destroyed Peoria's Susan G. Komen for the Cure office.

"November 18, 2008," said Maricle, the executive director of the Komen Peoria affiliate. "That was quite a morning. I was in Columbus, Ohio, when I got the call. Fortunately Janette was the only staff in the building and was able to get out. Everyone was protected and we thank the Good Lord for that."

Thanks to $150,000 in renovations the Susan G. Komen Peoria headquarters at the Metro Centre reopened Wednesday.

To mark the occasion Bradley President, and breast cancer survivor Joanne Glasser, was named honorary co–chair of next year's Race for the Cure.

"Cancer is not a club anyone chooses to become a member of," Glasser told News 25. " We get drafted, s to speak, just like in baseball. Once you're drafted you're a life–long member. I chose to keep a positive attitude and spread the word of hope and optimism to others. Following doctor's orders and following good medical practice you can be a survivor. And I'm happy to say that I am one."

Thursday will also be marked with ceremony by the Peoria Komen affiliate. Susan Komen's gravesite at Parkview Cemetery will be designated as a state historic landmark.

Linda Washkuhn was Susan Komen's best friend.

"I'm sure it will be very emotional," said Washkuhn. "I'm thrilled that people will have the opportunity when they come to Peoria to visit the memorial site where Susan is laid to rest."
