Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood heads back to Washington after helping to spread President Obama's education message at two Peoria–area schools Tuesday.

One of the next things on the former central Illinois congressman's agenda is a 'distracted driving summit.'
In an exclusive interview with News 25's Mike Dimmick on Tuesday, LaHood said the death of Eureka teenager Alyssa Burns – apparently after texting and driving – was a turning point.
When asked what convinced him that there was a need for a summit, LaHood said, "I think when I was back here on a weekend and I saw the article in the paper on the young woman who was killed. She was by herself and it was discovered that she was texting while driving. That came home pretty loud and clear to me," said LaHood. "If it were up to me, I would eliminate texting while driving, but I would also eliminate cell phones while driving. I just think it's a big, big distraction."

The distracted driving summit will be held September 30th and October 1st in Washington.
