The long awaited unveiling of statues of Abraham Lincoln and Mary Goings took place today in Metamora.

The statues were created by Decatur native John McClary and stand in the Metamora Village Square, across the street from the historic old Metamora Courthouse. Lincoln had significant ties to Woodford County.

Lincoln represented Mary Goings after she was accused of murdering her abusive husband. She escaped before her trial and some people accused Lincoln of helping her.

The statues costs $102,000 and were privately financed.

Thanks very much for the coverage, but the one statue is of MELISSA Goings -- not Mary.
