More than one hundred local youth took part in a basketball camp this week coached by former Harlem Globetrotter, Curley "Boo" Johnson.
Johnson spent eighteen years with the globetrotters, but now he shares his skills with kids.

The Skills for Life Basketball Academy is not just about how to shoot a perfect free throw or make a good lay-up. Johnson stressed the importance of good character off the court.

Camper Khalid Laster received a special proclamation from Mayor Jim Ardis for showing those qualities.

"I didn't think I was going to get the award. It was an honor to get it this award, usually I don't win big things like this. I just get those small awards," said Khalid.

Everyone at the camp walked away with an award and some special life skills
