A girls' national softball tournament in the Twin Cities is expected to produce some winning game results for local governments.

Nearly 90 teams from around the country and their families have traveled to the Bloomington–Normal area for the twelve and under Amateur Softball Association tournament.

One of the tournament organizers Cary Frey says the economic impact from people eating at local restaurants , staying in hotels and shopping could bring in over one–and–a half million dollars by the end of the week.
Fry says 26 teams from California alone and 8 from Texas are competing in
the national tournament at Champion Fields in Normal.
Families and players arrived on Saturday and attended opening ceremonies yesterday.
Fry says the number of people coming per team seems to be really strong.

"The tournament is set up where the teams are playing just one game a day really for the first three days. So Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday it'll be one game per team, so That leaves a lot of down time to experience all the nice things about Central Illinois," Frey said.

Frey says that so many fans are showing up that some teams had to book hotels in Peoria.
This is the first time Bloomington–Normal is hosting the 12 and under A–S–A national tournament.

The championship game will be held Sunday.
