Pork Rinds, Anyone?

Before you read this story, we should warn you- this is not for the faint of stomach.

It all came down to six men, five minutes and one heavy dinner. Peoria's ESPN radio station 96.5 celebrated its second birthday today by hosting, of all things, a pork rind eating contest.

Organizers say they got the idea when they learned Peoria was home to a pork rind celebrity, John Palmgren. Palmgren finished second in the World Pork Rind Championships two weeks ago in Ohio.

As far as training is concerned, he says he just goes with his gut.

"I really don't train right now. I just try to go on my natural talent and see how far that goes. I'm sure if those guys that are eating 66 hot dogs, they're causing some kind of damage to their body," said Palmgren.

Palmgren was a symbolic competitor today. The winner was Andy Best of Peoria. He walked away with season Rivermen tickets and a very full stomach.
