Stovetop Blaze Damages Peoria Home

They say a watched pot never boils, and you rarely hear about a watched meal catching fire either.

Clean up crews were at work in Peoria this afternoon after Milton Thorton began cooking dinner on his stovetop and then left his house. Fire officials say his wife Rachel Thorton soon smelled something burning in their 205 West Glenn home, and found their kitchen ablaze.

Officials add while there is no apparent damage to the outside of the house, the inside is not so lucky.

"The kitchen won't be a total loss. You're probably looking at a good fifty-thousand dollars worth of damage on it. Water damage was minimal. They did have some smoke damage through the building, but I think that can all be cleaned up," said Captain Michael Morgan of the Peoria Fire Department.

Officials say Mrs. Thorton was the only person home when the fire started. She was not injured in the blaze.
