Uncle Sam is not letting the recession spoil plans for the holiday weekend in Central Illinois.

City Officials in Peoria and East Peoria say they've spared no expense for the Red White and Boom celebration.

It's called Red, White and Boom. But across the nation, 4th of July fireworks displays are being short–circuited.

"We didn't find out until the end of March that the figure was submitted and it was $15,500 dollars."

Not so in Central Illinois, as Peoria and East Peoria Officials promote full–fledged fireworks festivities.

"It's an uplifting experience and I think because of the good spirit of all the people in Central Illinois and our businesses, we're able to do as much or more utilizing our many resources. Staycations are in effect. It's a great concept and I think it'll really be a resource for our community," said East Peoria Mayor Dave Mingus.

For those residents who are not staying in, and plan to head out of town, some simple advice. Don't take one for the road.

"If you know that you're going to be out partying, be out drinking, use common sense and have a designated driver. It makes everything so much safer, so much easier, and so much happier for everybody," East Peoria Police Chief Ed Papis.

Simple advice to make sure your 4th of July celebration is spectacular!

Officials say the Red White and Boom show on Saturday night costs about 80 thousand dollars, and will feature 48–hundred pounds of fireworks. The show is hosted by Methodist medical Center.
