A Peoria baby is dead after loved ones found him unresponsive this morning.

The Peoria County Coroner says 29-day-old Glen N. Cheney was co-sleeping with his mother Annette Cheney in an adult bed.
Mother and baby lived with her parents Patricia and Glen Stringer at this home on Northeast Madison.

When Patricia went in the room to check on her daughter and grandson, she found Annette still asleep and the baby unresponsive.

He was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 9:15 this morning.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

I would never judge a mother who is grieving her son. I can't imagine anything more difficult. However, we need to get the word out that co-sleeping with an infant is very dangerous. There are other options if a crib is too expensive - using a plastic laundry basket with a towel is one. How are we going to prevent other mothers from this suffering?

IF you log on to pjstar.com there is an article there about a 3 month old that was found dead this morning. What is going on? The parent also complained of cold symptoms with this child? Are the doctors not listening to these parents or what?

i just wanted to say that your family is in my prayers and thoughts during this difficult time. No one knows the reason that this baby was taken from us so soon, so quit speculating and jumping to conclusions. Mind your own business, this is a sad story and the family needs to grieve peacefully without all of this judgement!

To Jeannette Cheney our thoughts and prayers are with your family.Ignore those who judge for they come to you out of ignorance. Hold your sister's heart because she is going to need you.

I have co-slept with all of my children until toddlerhood and I wouldn't change a thing. There are some do's and don'ts, but a lot of it is common sense. I recommend researching it throughly. Shopping carts are a proven risk (injury & death), but it's usually acceptable as long as a parent is the one who benefits.

Will people never learn how many times do they have read this in the paper or see it on TV. Put the baby in a crib a bassinet not in an adult bed with or without an adult. God bless this small angel!
