Peoria Police are investigating an overnight shooting in the 700 block of Greenlawn.
Authorities were called to the scene around 11 Monday night.
They found 45 year old Jonathan Pickett with multiple gunshot wounds. He died soon after arriving to the hospital.
Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says the wounds were to the victim's back and chest and she believes a handgun was the weapon.
Peoria police officer Doug Burgess says despite this being the fifth homicide in the city this year, crime is still down.
"It's not that we're having a bad year with homicides. We're only at five right now. Two years ago, we were at 13, it's just that when you compare it to last year, sure you're going to think things are going up. They're still good. Crime is still down for the most part. Robberies are up and shootings are up, but actual homicides are down," said Burgess.
The shooting happened in an area that is watched closely by the neighborhood association.
Levetta Ricca is with the area Neighborhood Association.
She says, "I've lived here for 71 years. I don't like it. I don't like it at all. It's sad. To see that man laying there. It wasn't good. And to hear the shots. And that's getting to be an every day occurrence around here at night."
Peoria Police have no suspects in custody. They're asking anyone with information to call crimestoppers at 673-9000.
