Lawmakers Leave Budget Crisis in Springfield

State lawmakers have already gone home with no end to the budget crisis.

They couldn't even agree on the size of the historic deficit they face. Is it 11–billion or 9–billion or maybe even 7–billion dollars?

And Governor Pat Quinn has backed away from his threat to make drastic cuts to slash spending for child care, drug counseling and women's health.

Even though Democrat had warned that a version of the budget approved by the General Assembly would require painful cuts.

Lawmakers have left Springfield but plan to return to the Capitol on Monday two days before the current budget expires.

No more tax increases or fee increases! It is time for the state to cut services across the board and quit providing programs that we cannot afford! ALL state departments, agencies, services should see a reduction in their budgets. What will they do with the new money? Pay off debt or simply start a new government program or expand and existing one? Get your expenses in line with your income Springfield! Not the other way around. No more taxes!

Nothing like a hot 4 day weekend to sit on your butts and think about the budget. yeah right...Maybe they could come up with more than 2 budget options?

I agree with Stumpy....children at risk shouldn't have services taken away to fix a problem adults created.

Look, no one wants to pay taxes...and I understand people's retorts about cutting social service programs when they don't apply to them; but think of this; if you were in there shoes and it was YOUR JOB on the line or YOUR DISABLED CHILD who could not get the services they needed; you would feel the same. At least I hope we all would.
