Layoffs at Firefly

Peoria's revolutionary battery company – Firefly – has hit a bump in the road.

The company co–founder confirms Firefly has recently had two rounds of layoffs.

Mil Ovan would not give specific numbers. Sources say it's about 15 employees and Ovan says that's generally correct.

Ovan says current economic conditions necessitated the layoffs. But he tells News 25 that sees reason for optimism ahead.

Firefly's Oasis battery is getting a close look by the military and many commercial industries.

And Firefly is still in the hunt for funding from a federal stimulus program.
Ovan says those prospects lead him to believe Firefly could start hiring again in the future.
