Rogy's Daycare says it could be forced to close some of it's centers if Illinois legislators do not restore budget cuts for next fiscal year.
They say that could add more damage to the local economy.

Armed with signs, banners, and pictures of kids more than 30 Rogy's Daycare employees boarded a van for a rally in Springfield Tuesday.
They're planning to let off some steam to legislators about the cuts to child care subsidies.

"I can't imagine if our centers close. We're a big part of Peoria and for the children," said Rogy's Co-owner Wendy Pettett.

Pettett says she would have to layoff half of her one–thousand employees if she's forced to close some of the 18 learning centers.
Without the Child Care Connection subsidies mothers would be forced to pay the full fee.

"I would have to stay home, I did the math and I would end up paying more than what my check is. So my kids would definitely be home with me and I wouldn't be working and as a single mom that's not really doable," said Daycare patron Kara Cochran of Bellevue.

Pettett says the budget cuts would deepen the impact of the recession because with layoffs and parents staying home businesses would lose money.
One childcare teacher says educational gains made by preschoolers would also be lost.

"We had children in our graduating class knowing their letters and sounds this year. That's what they want us to do because when they're home sometimes they don't hear the same sounds, and they have trouble reading, " said Pre-school teacher Bonnie Huss.

Rogy's employees hope that with their voices, signs and messages
legislators in Springfield will reverse the cuts and keep pre–schoolers in daycare.

I have 3 children. I worked at a job that paid very well and I absolutely hated due to the stress levels. I have chosen to cut my wages by going to work with students at a school. I make a lot less money and have to use Child Care connection. But now my job is rewarding, I am helping students, and my children have a much less stressed mother. I thank God everyday for the blessing of the state funded daycare. It has saved my sanity and helped me have a career I love.

PS "Do It", I bet you wouldn't have a problem with some of them fighting for you, would you? It's all 'you' and 'yours', until YOU need help, right?

"Do It", I'm guessing you are either not worth dating-therefore bitter-or maybe a control freak who's hoping his escaped ex-wife won't make it without him? Am I even close...? I would think all tax payers (which includes those you're insulting, btw) would want the public off welfare, by getting a higher education and steady employment, no? Instead, you want them to fail. Interesting, twisted, but interesting.

I guess the jerks that refer to children as puppies would rather that I live off of welfare food stamps (LINK) and section 8 housing instead of working and needing daycare assistance. Thats intellegent.

What about the people who have to pay full price for daycare, get no help. Some people put half their earnings into daycare but get nothing back. Sorry, I say this is tough love.

I am a divorced mother of 2. The child care subsidies enabled me to have affordable childcare and still work fulltime. How many parents will have to quit their jobs now if they loose the subsidy? Cutting the subsidy is a huge mistake.

Mr. Do it, In case you missed sex education, it takes two to tango. You have no idea what some of us go through or what we have been through that has put us in the situation to where we need assistance with daycare. Ever heard of the term "Divorce?" Ever heard of the term "Dead-Beat-Dad?" Ever heard of the term "Glass-Ceiling?" Title Nine got us nowhere! I decided to go back to school so I could make a decent living and support my one child so we dont have to struggle forever! I pay taxes too!

whoever calls daycare workers babysitters is sadly mistaken. We are not babysitters we are teachers and teach these pre-school children on a daily basis. We don't make that great money you think we all do. It's these children that keep us going. They need us. so you are sadly mistaken when you call us babysitters. That makes me sick whoever wrote that comment. I would like to see you work in a childcare facility for one day. Then we will see who the real babysitter is. You make me sick.

Seriously some of you need to learn a little compassion for others. Everyone has a story. I currently have guardianship on my niece, her mother is in prison. If it were not for me stepping in and taking care of her who knows where she would be. I receive the medical card for her and help paying for daycare and that is it. not my child but i stepped up to the plate. And yes i have a job and no i don't get any welfare.

So Doctor Obvious....you'd rather pay the family welfare tab instead of help with the babysitting? Moron...lol. Seriously..do some people just not think before they type?

maybe if these ladies dont have all these assistance "cushions" to fall back on, maybe they would start thinking about keeping their legs closed and stop popping out all these puppies they cant afford?

Finding it difficult to believe that the only way we can save our state is to cut child care and human services. Why aren't we all contacting our state reps and demanding an accounting? Where IS all of our money going and is this REALLY the best place to make cuts?

It's high time the parental unit(s) quit pushing their litter onto the taxpayer to raise. We're broke and can't afford to provide babysitting services anymore...
