More than 20 emergency response agencies from all over the county descended on the Shoppes at Grand Prairie for the expo.
"Peoria Police, Peoria Fire, we've got Brimfield Fire, Princeville, Elmwood, Dunlap, Henry Fire", said event organizer, Jenny Zinkel.
There were hands on opportunities, and demonstration including this Dunlap fire fighter who showed how quickly she has to put on her gear if a fire breaks out...she did it in well under two minutes.
"Most of the people, kids have never been up close to a horse, so they enjoy that", said Jim Bunting of the Peoria County Sheriff's Posse.
The event organizer says it's important for kids to be able to meet rescue workers and see what they do in a controlled environment.
"If the children have never met an emergency responder, then their first meeting may be in an actual emergency where they're anxious and they're scared and this person comes into their house", said Zinkel.
Stacey Cassady said "It's great just for safety reasons. I think that they should know that fire fighters and policemen and helicopters are for good".
About a thousand curious spectators were drawn to the event.
It's a one-day experience about mid June every year, so if you missed out this time, look for the dogs, sirens and choppers next year.

I want to thank all of exhibitors who came out last night. My daughter had a wonderful time and learned a great deal. WHen we got home, we talked about different emergency situations and what she should do. I think it helped her to overcome some slight fears. I know that I feel much better know that she knows what she should do in an emergency. It was truly an excellent and enjoyable event. Thank you to all who helped to provide it.
