Peoria Stabbing Death Ruled "Justifiable"

Kendrick Nellum

By Tom McIntyre

A 30 year old Peorian arrested yesterday morning on murder charges has been released, and will face no criminal charges.

Kendrick Nellum was arrested following the stabbing death of Derrick Wade at the Lexington Hills apartments.

Today, State’s Attorney Kevin Lyons said Nellum was trying to separate Wade from a woman he—Wade—was beating.
Nellum was said to be a relative of the woman.

The state’s attorney said Nellum admitted stabbing Wade, and witnesses agreed what had taken place.

Lyons says the death of 24 year old Derrick Wade of Cleveland, Mississippi was “justifiable” because Nellum was defending another person during a criminal battery.

Well to start off i feel like this man took somebody son, father, brother, cousin and so on and I know he probably didnt mean to do it but it was wrong unless the dude that was hitting his sister had a weapon he shouldnt have stabbed him. From what I hear there where witnesses there so why couldnt they help get the man off of his sister and another Im sure he wasnt gon kill her so that was wrong how can you take somebody life and get away with it she probably liked it anyways

domestic violence makes desperate people do desparate things. Until we realize the emotions evoked in a domestic situation, many men and women will die in these situations.

It is great to see the law work the way it is supposed to. Self defense or defending the life of someone else is NOT a crime. 3 cheers for PPD and Kevin Lyons for recongnizing that his man is a hero, not a criminal.

I KNEW KENDRICK AS WELL AND HE WAS NOT THAT TYPE OF PERSON....WHEN I HEARD WHAT HAPPENED I KNEW IT HAD TO BE JUSTIFIABLE. IF ANYTHING HE PANICED IN THE SITUATION AND DID WHAT HE FELT WAS NECCESARY.

those who believe he should have used fists and forece rather than a knife... I would like to see how you would respond if it was a family member of yours... and you had any other weapon available....

I know Kendrick Nellum personally. He is not a horrible person. He was protecting someone. Before you open your mouth and slander someone, know all the facts first.

Whats wrong with this picture. I mean come on this looks like a big person in the picture and he had to stab the guy to stop the attack. OK maybe I am missing something.

Now if this man was beating this woman like this, then what was the other people doing? Did it really take this man to stab a person in the back? He/they could not pull this man off of this woman, did this man have a weapon, or was he just using his fist? When did the knife come into play, did he go in the apartment to retrieve this knife? Not justifiable.

Sounds like he did a brave thing and saved this woman. I hope they can all go forward in peace now.
