Arrest in Peoria Homicide

By WEEK Reporter

Peoria Police have an arrest in what is now the fifth homicide in the city this year.

Authorities say they responded to a 9-1-1 call at an apartment on
Oakcrest Avenue around two Monday morning.

They say several calls indicated a domestic disturbance at that address.

When they arrived, officers found a 24 year old Derrick Wade of Cleveland, Mississippi outside the apartment building with a stab wound to the torso.

The victim was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

Detectives later arrested 30-year old Kendrick Nellum of Peoria for murder.

The investigation is ongoing and if you have any information with regards to the incident you are asked to call 673-4521 or Crime Stoppers 673-9000.

The Peoria Police Department is wonderful; and do a good job. What a job thinking all day that when they stop a guy on a bike he has the potential to shoot or stab the officer. Wow they can't pay me enough to have a KID, would be "starter kit stupid ganster" to take my life. Help and become a real neighbor. DRUGS IS OUR WAR RIGHT IN YOUR BACK YARD. Lets stay focused on that.

Lets take the responsibility to take back OUR neighborhoods. When you see drug activity or the "baby makers" in these rentals selling drugs, get the binoculars out that I know you people have that don't have a thing all day to do; and start IDing the license plates, call them in right away. They will find drugs in the auto; if you call in with a "good complaint" with facts, someone is going to listen. Take back our neighbor hoods by being a GOOD watchful neighbor.

It is sad that this stabbing has happened. ANOTHER SON, FATHER, BROTHER, That won't be coming home tonight. My heart bleeds for the family; or do we know where his mother is at??? One person mentioned "the neighbor" have made complaints, well good luck on that. The Peoria Police Dept can only do so much. So when you neighbors who don't have a thing to do all day but to complain about a stray cat, or music YOU PEOPLE GET MORE ATTENTION THEN SOMEONE BEING STABBED AT PIERSON HILLS.

DEATH HAPPENS EVERYDAY AND IT'S ALWAYS LITTLE TO BE DONE WHEN IT COMES TO THE LAW. BLACK ON BLACK CRIME IS SOMETHING THAT IS SO COMMON SO THIS SITUATION CAN EASILY BE VIEWED AS ANOTHER STATISTIC. FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN READING APPARENTLY THERE HAS BEEN ALOT A CRIME AND VIOLENCE IN THIS APPARTMENT COMPLEX IF NOTHING HASN'T BEEN DONE BY NOW WHAT MAKES YOU THINK SOMETHING WILL BE DONE NOW? WE AS PEOPLE NEED TO TAKE A STAND AND SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH I DON'T FORESEE THAT HAPPENING NO TIME SOON.

I know someone personally that delevered something to that apartment complex amd was robbed at gunpoint. It scared the hell out of them. That apartment complex has been in the news quit a bit for violence and murder. I would love to see Peoria Police do a sweep of the place to get rid of drugs weapons. It sounds harsh, but it might help clean that place up. The man did not deserve to dye, but the scumbag with the knife had no right to kill either! More bad choices

"We all need God"? Because this mentality is doing so well for those walking the "Holy Land" in the Middle East. What we need is common sense and education, but then a truly educated person might second guess book that was written over 2000 years ago by people who thought the Earth was flat. Funny we now know that not to be true but still believe a man in the clouds can save us? Amazing!!

How does someone getting stabbed have anything to do with concealed guns?

Monday, Jun 15 at 10:14 AM Robert Rodden wrote ...

Pass a law to allow law abiding citizen's to carry a concealed gun has nothing to do with this violence. A person carry a firearm with a liscense to do so will be just as culpible as some creep who thinks he's got to make a name for himself by shooting another human being. The difference? The law abiding person is on record as owning a fire arm, and police will be able to easily find them for questioning. The creep who shoots someone will still be hard to find without an investigation.
