Fire Safety Reminder

A fatal fire in Pekin earlier this week is prompting authorities to remind homeowners about the importance of Smoke Detectors.

Authorities in Pekin are still trying to figure out what happened at 312 Park Ridge Lane.

71 year old Palma Bryant died in her home... apparently because of the fire.

Pekin Fire Chief Chuck Lauss says it appears there was a fire detector in Bryant's house... but it's unclear if it was working.

He says the case is a good reminder for everyone to test your smoke detectors.

Lauss says, "Every residence, every building. If there are people in it, they need to have smoke detectors in it. Smoke detectors are the earliest signs that there is a problem. Whether it's fire, smoke. Whether there's something going on. Smoke detectors is the earliest warning for that."

Lauss says the cause of the fire is still not known.

We'll have more on different types of fire detectors coming tonight at six.
