Traffic was backed up for a while on Route-Six just after six this morning.

Police received a call about motorist along the southbound lane near mile marker one.

A Peoria County Sheriff's deputy stopped to help the motorist.

Investigators say the deputy saw a weapon in the car, drew his own weapon and then backed away.

Peoria County Sheriff's Lieutenant Mark Greskoviak says, "A Officer responded on a motorist assist on a car along side the roadway. Upon coming up to the car, the individual in the vehicle discharged a handgun. Apparently it's being investigated now as a self-inflicted wound."

Investigators say the officer did not provoke the shooting.

The Peoria County Coroner says 23-year old Jacob Favri of Edelstein died at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center at seven o'clock this morning.

According to his MySpace Page, Favri is a U-S Marine.

An autopsy is scheduled for this afternoon.

When is everyone going to wake up and realize that they are not getting they help they need for PTSD? You can't throw pills at them and say go back to work! If they are good enough to put their lives on the line, they are good enough to help when they come home. This is disgusting how they are being "thrown away". Thoughts and prayers are with his family.
