Arts funding in Illinois

The Illinois Arts Alliance is holding its statewide arts conference at a time when their already dwindling state funds could get cut even more.

The alliance says over the last several years the state has already slashed nearly $5 million in arts funding.

This year, Governor Quinn proposed the arts receive the same amount of funding as last year.

Alliance members say supporting the arts is a wise investment for the state.

"We think there is strong support for the arts in the general assembly and in DC, but we understand there are financial challenges, what I would say, especially now, is that the arts have an enormous impact on our economy and work force," said Ra Joy, Illinois Arts Alliance's Executive Director.

This is the sixth Illinois statewide arts conference.

It will conclude at the Hotel Pere Marquette in downtown Peoria tomorrow.

Well Billy, the arts are not only employing many people, they are an important way to bring in money to the community. If we can get support for the arts they well help bring in money form outside sources into our communities!

Oh WOW you "IDIOTS" are now begging for money for the arts? When is the stupidity going to end? With the state in the financial mess that it's in the state can't even keep the schools running and people losing their jobs everyday. Now you want money for the arts,museums,hotels...., and the governor asking to raise your income taxes to balance the budget. This state is run by a bunch of "FOOLS and IDIOTS". Just bend over all you residents of Illinois because the big one is coming.
