Rising floodwaters have claimed the lives of two Central Illinois residents.
Sunday authorities found the body of 47–year–old Susan Hogue near London Mills.
Monday evening, Fulton County Sheriff's deputies said an Illinois conservation police officer found a vehicle submerged in flood water south of County Highway 20 approximately a half mile east of the Spoon River
Divers located a male approximately 45 years old inside the vehicle. As of late Monday night, the victim's name was being withheld pending notification of family members. Fulton County Coroner Steve Hines pronounced the subject dead at the scene.
London Mills Fire Chief Rick Anderson says a motorist was driving his black Ford eastbound on County Highway 20 Saturday evening when the road was flooded with water.
Anderson says the person called Knox County dispatch warning them of his situation.
He says authorities tried to call him again after they were disconnected but were not successful.
Rescue crews searched the area near the Indian Forge Bridge Saturday, Sunday and crews called divers late Monday afternoon.
"The last that Knox County dispatch had got on his cell phone would put him right here in this area, probably a mile and half. This road was completely underwater," Anderson said.
Two witnesses say Saturday morning just before one o'clock Susan Hogue tried to drive her vehicle north on Highway 39 when her car became submerged into several feet of water.
Anderson says that area received about five inches of rain Friday and as much as 12 feet of water flooded onto the highway.
Knox County Coroner Mark Thomas says Hogue died from drowning underwater.
Authorities say residents should not drive their vehicles over roads with standing water.
