Flood Waters Claim Second Victim

The Mackinaw River, rising Friday under a viaduct.

Rising floodwaters have claimed the lives of two Central Illinois residents.
Sunday authorities found the body of 47–year–old Susan Hogue near London Mills.
Monday evening, Fulton County Sheriff's deputies said an Illinois conservation police officer found a vehicle submerged in flood water south of County Highway 20 approximately a half mile east of the Spoon River
Divers located a male approximately 45 years old inside the vehicle. As of late Monday night, the victim's name was being withheld pending notification of family members. Fulton County Coroner Steve Hines pronounced the subject dead at the scene.

London Mills Fire Chief Rick Anderson says a motorist was driving his black Ford eastbound on County Highway 20 Saturday evening when the road was flooded with water.
Anderson says the person called Knox County dispatch warning them of his situation.
He says authorities tried to call him again after they were disconnected but were not successful.
Rescue crews searched the area near the Indian Forge Bridge Saturday, Sunday and crews called divers late Monday afternoon.

"The last that Knox County dispatch had got on his cell phone would put him right here in this area, probably a mile and half. This road was completely underwater," Anderson said.

Two witnesses say Saturday morning just before one o'clock Susan Hogue tried to drive her vehicle north on Highway 39 when her car became submerged into several feet of water.
Anderson says that area received about five inches of rain Friday and as much as 12 feet of water flooded onto the highway.

Knox County Coroner Mark Thomas says Hogue died from drowning underwater.
Authorities say residents should not drive their vehicles over roads with standing water.

People have no respect or compassion for the deceased or there families. Unfornately that is the way our country is and always will be. There will come a time when all of these foul bad mouthing people get to take their turn with fate and it won't break my heart or anybody's elses one bit to see the agony that they will go through My prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased.

How can the woman who drowned herself not know that this road was bad. I take it she ouldnt go through Maquon to London Mills but some back road thats notorious for overflow. Theres a sign that states of the flooding potential plus with the amout of rain she should of had common sense. Its not the cops fault its hers. If people had half a brain they wouldnt die but its survuval of the fittest which has always been lifes rule.

I have lived in London Mills all of my life. Whenever someone from the town needs help we all pitch in to do what we can for them. The ATV that the fire dept has, has been used in numerous 4 wheeler accidents and grass fires around the dist. My husband used to be on the dept and they try very hard to do their best as VOLUNTEERS, maybe you need to remember that! It takes a lot of time and dedication. I am proud to be a Fulton County River Rat and would not choose to raise my kids elsewhere!

She wasn't from Fulton county. I believe in God and am greatful we have police and firefighters. As for brain capacity, it's amazing how many people lack compassion. Good luck when your time comes.

I am from that area & though I didnt at all know the woman she did not deserve to die. It's not funny. Just because you have no soul doent mean others dont. Hugs to the family. Ive lost my dad 2 years ago to cancer even though it's not the samething I know the grieving process & hell it is. Dave & the fire fighter do not let these people ruffle your feathers as their notworth the time of day.

There is no god or hell so dont go bringing that garbage into that. Scientific evidence points to the fact that there is no god...so go build a shrine to the tooth fairy or something. Maybe pray to Santa Clause to bring you a functioning brain & common sense. As for the woman its sad but its life. She should of known with all the rain the Spoon would go over it's banks. That's common knowledge from anyone in fulton County...well almost everyone.

wow a womans death can bring such fury out in people tee hee. Look here fire fighter if you dont like what a person has to say ignore them, move on but oh no someone with the brain capacity of you just cannot do that. Dont you have some fires to fight or something or are you like your friends the cops & do nothing but eat donuts all day.

I had only know Susan for a short time and thought she was a nice lady. When I read these nasty comments it makes me sick. Shame on you people. I firmly believe in the saying " what goes around, comes around". I feel sad for her family and the people who loved her. Please think before you make comments about something you no nothing about. You nasty people could do better things with your time other than picking on a deceased person and her grieving family members.

Monday, May 18 at 9:35 PM Dave Dowell wrote ...

You people could at least show a little respect here, and try to not show how ignorant you are. For one thing, there were no barricades up blocking off the road. A car traveling over the bridge at the posted speed limit would not be able to stop in time with as much current as there was that night. You shouldn't comment if you don't have a clue. Secondly, the people commenting and laughing about the incident won't be laughing when they're burning in hell because they are heartless.
