The Mackinaw River, rising Friday under a viaduct.

By WEEK Producer

Even though rain began to let up late Friday, flash flood warnings remained in effect through Saturday morning in central Illinois.

The National Weather Service late Friday said up to four inches of rain had fallen in some areas.

Peoria County officials are advising motorists to stay off certain stretches of roads, still closed to flooding.
Brimfield South between Shissler and Pulsifer.
Dogtown lane between Tiber Creek and Meehan road in Elmwood.
Graham Chapel road between Wiley and Route 78.
Radnor road between Alta Lane and Ridgeview.
State street between Old Galena Road and Route 6.
Wasson road between Downs School and Cramer Road
And Powderbill Bridge construction bypass road.

A flood warning was issued Friday afternoon for the Mackinaw River. Persistent, heavy rains have caused the river to swell and has left standing water in some farmers' fields.

Mackinaw public works manager Randy Dabney says those conditions can leave some of the area's rural roads vulnerable.

"You can even see some of that activity down around Route–9, north of town out in some of the agricultural areas," Dabney told news 25. "It can get several feet deep over top of the township roads."

Meanwhile, Mother Nature is causing delays in the construction of Mackinaw's new IGA grocery store. Store owner Brett Zehr says the project has been pushed back about 3 weeks. He's now hoping to open in September.

"A day doesn't go by that my wife and I don't hear from somebody, 'Wow, we miss that store terribly and we can't wait until it comes back.' It's affected a lot of people. A lot of people say they can't wait to come back and support us. We're hoping so and we're excited."

Mackinaw's old IGA was destroyed by fire in October. Zehr says the new one will be roughly 30–percent larger and have 5 to 10 more employees.
