This weekend's wild winter weather didn't stop a fraternity from participating in an outdoor charity event. Eureka College's Delta Sigma Phi fraternity still took to the streets to collect money for the March of Dimes.
The organization's mission is to improve the health of babies by finding cures for birth defects and infant mortality. Eureka's chapter members lured in donators with a large-scale teeter-totter in the town square. R.J. Mahalic, a member of the fraternity said
"I think maybe people feel a little bit sorry for us, especially with the rain. So we're just happy to donate whatever we can."
The 24-hour event is the fraternity's national philanthropic event. The Park District loaned the teeter-totter, and it's been going up and down since 2pm Saturday afternoon.
The fraternity hopes to eclipse its previous years donations and raise about $4500.
