Mackinaw to Get New IGA Store

By Garry Moore

We are being bombarded on a daily basis by negative economic reports.
Tonight we have at least one exception.

There is a business being reborn in the small community of Mackinaw!

The town's only grocery store—destroyed by fire last year will reopen.
Last September's blaze gutted the IGA in downtown Mackinaw.

But with insurance help and assistance from the Village, the store's owner is now rebuilding. The new store will be on the same site.
Its' floor space will be slightly bigger than the original.

"We have an opportunity that we are excited to support, they supported us and we're excited to serve and that's why," said owner Brett Zehr.

"I can't say what it means to me to have the store rebuilding, it's just proof that people still have faith in the community and to have faith in Mackinaw. I'm just happy that Brett is rebuilding the store," said Craig Friend.

Since September's fire, residents say they were forced to shop in Morton or at the owner's other IGA store in Minier.

The new store is slated to open in August.
