One guy that could be out of a job in a couple weeks is Governor Rod Blagojevich. After being impeached Friday, State Senators are getting set for his trial that starts in two weeks.
State Senator Dan Rutherford from Chenoa is part of a team of nine making the rules for the proceedings. Those will be available to state lawmakers Monday.
The 96th General Assembly gets sworn in on Wednesday and the rules will likely be approved then. After that, the governor is given official notice about the trial.
"We've never had this happen before in the state of Illinois. When we drafted these rules we did go back to the rules of the United States Senate on the impeachment proceedings for Bill Clinton and we also looked at the state of Arizona in the 1980s when they had impeached the governor there. So, at least we had some rules we could look at," Rutherford says.
The trial is set to start in the state Senate on Monday, January 26th with pre-trial motions, evidence and witness lists coming the week before.
It will take 40 of the 59 senators to convict the governor and remove him from office.
