Beauty and the Beast at Eastlight Theatre

By WEEK Multi-Media Content Producer

The play is Beauty and the Beast Jr. with a twist. Teaming the Easter seals organization, the Penguin Project gives children with disabilities the chance to participate in live theater. 80 children are in the production, 40 are children with disabilities and 40 are peer mentors who help the performers learn their lines. And event organizers say it all comes together for a seamless and professional production.

"The children with disabilities are getting a chance to be the performers, the mentors are learning about interacting and providing guidance, and the parents get a chance to see their children perform in ways they've never seen before." Says Penguin Project Director, Dr. Andrew Morgan.
"And what we've found is that when you give kids a chance to perform, they will rise to the occasion."

Shows are open to the public, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
And Sunday at 11 a.m. Tickets are ten dollars for adults and five for children.
