Committee Hears Of Hiring Irregularities

Senate leaders say they're hoping that Roland
Burris will be asked under oath tomorrow whether he promised
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich anything in exchange for the Senate
appointment.

Burris has offered his assurances that he wasn't involved in any
such ``pay to play.''

The former Illinois attorney general says he expects ``very
shortly'' to represent the state of Illinois in the U.S. Senate.

Burris says he expects resolution soon of the remaining issues
standing in the way of his taking President-elect Barack Obama's
former spot.

Members of the House Impeachment Committee Wednesday heard from a previously confidential report documenting attempts by the Governor's office to circumvent state hiring laws.

In some cases, according to the report from the Inspector General, people were hired from one county but moved to work in another county so military veterans wouldn't be considered for hiring.

In another example, a woman was hired to work with the deaf...when her only experience was a one-week class in sign language when she was in grade school.

The Committee resumes hearings at 3-pm on Thursday.

Impeach to send a message! It is unacceptable for us to tolerate the historically corrupt behavior that exists in our government. These people have not only taken advantage of hard working American citizens, but have abused our trust, and destroyed the hope of the very people who elected them into office. It is disgraceful, when we can only count on our government to victimize us, by abusing our tax dollars and persuing personal needs over the needs of the people in this state. Enough is enough!
