Filling Up On Food Stamps

By Jeff Muniz

Another sign of the struggling economy is more Illinois residents needing food stamps so they can fill their stomachs. Nearly 1.4 million people in Illinois used food stamps in November. That's 100-thousand more people than the previous year.

A spokesman with the Illinois Department of Human Services blames both higher food prices and the struggling economy for the increase.
Most low-income households can qualify for food stamp benefits.
A family of four can get up to 588-dollars a month for groceries through the program.

Yes, public aid said that my social security at 674. a month is too much money to qualify. When I had a income of 430. a month they gave me $ 50.00 to buy food. All because I am a honest person and didn't do what some ppl do to the system.I really don't know how anyone can live with themselves. After cheating the system.Pregent women are tested for HIV/AIDS also.Just because they would be tested for drugs.Doesnt mean they won't find away to move out of this state. To keep their drugged baby.

I think drug testing food stamp receiptants is a great idea. I believe that most medicaid receiptants should be drug tested also! If a woman is pregnant she is automatically qualified for a medicaid card. Many women deliver their children with drugs in their systems, law should be written that the child automatically becomes a ward of the state. This would save the government money in the long run, maybe the cycle of drug abuse would stop right there.

I think food stamps are the best way for government to help people but the abuse of the system is to high. I think the best way to clean up the system is to drug test everyone who receives food stamps.
