A Bradley University Professor is the proud owner of a 'Solar System' on her garage!
Dr. Cecile Arquette has the first Solar paneled home on her block. She's hoping the idea 'sparks' others to follow suit.
"My husband and I have always been really interested in trying to do what you would say is the right thing and so we've been investigating Solar Power for a long time and found out there's a new company in tow," said Dr. Arquette.
"And we contact them several months ago and we're getting a solar array put in on our garage which is pretty exciting."
We found the crew of Bauer Power on Arquette's roof, laying down panels and taking in the rays.
"The Solar panels that you see take energy that the Sun's photon energy emits to our earth. When we grow plants through photosynthesis the same power can create electrons so the panels are making D/C electrons and we want A/C electrons in our home, so there's a device called an inverter and it converts D/C energy into A/C energy and then it goes right into the home," said Mark Bauer of Bauer Power.
"More than that, its more of a philosophy if you can you need to do the best you can to try and give back or leave things a little better than you found them," said Dr. Arquette.
It's a green philosophy, made possible by bright orange sunlight and blue skies.
"When we moved here in the Uplands with these ancient homes...the first thing we did was put in new windows, then we put in fireplace and rain barrels and we collect water and we grow some of our own foods," said Dr. Arquette.
Bauer and Arquette say for middle income people with some discretionary income, it may easy being green.
"Renewable energy is a little different. Right now you send the Power company $50, $100, $200 dollars and you get no return on that investment. When you own your own energy system it's part of an asset on to your home. You're getting clean energy for it," said Bauer.
"t'll cover about a quarter of our bill and it's less than the price of a new car. So, its definitely doable," said Dr. Arquette.
