It's slow going as motorists see troopers at the scene of one of many crashes that come from slick roads.
The situation could have been worse.
But, the Illinois Department of Transportation installed wire barriers along Interstate 74 to protect drivers from severe collisions.
Illinois State Sargent Tony Halsey said, "The crash that we have here today the wire did it's job that's what it's designed for and you know it's a great safety barrier to prevent the vehicles involved in the crash traveling in the other direction of the crash and save anyone else from getting involved in the crash."
Sergeant Halsey says State troopers were stationed every 10 miles along the Interstate for the Alive on I's Detail... keeping a closer eye on motorists on high volume traffic days, during the holiday season.
"So far in this area throughout the thanksgiving holiday break it's been a safe one. There's been minor crashes but nothing severe", said Halsey.
But the bumper to bumper traffic didn't stop at the roads. Many passengers are here in line at Peoria's International Airport. People say they arrived early some say they arrived a little late.
"The attendant told us that we were supposed to be here before one hour it was originally scheduled", said Luis Correa.
Airline Passenger Ved Rajput said, "We read a lot about it and heard a lot about it on the news. Peoria's a small airport but I think we should be okay getting out."
But some fliers weren't able to get out..
"My flight has been canceled and I maybe able to fly out of here tomorrow morning as early as 6AM but I might be stuck here all day", said traveler Bradley Dix.
Whether stuck in line or stuck on the side of the road...mother nature taking travelers on some rough roads as they head home after the Thanksgiving holiday.
