Reprieve For George Ryan?

By Tom McIntyre

Senator Dick Durbin isn't ruling out the possibility of asking the President to commute the prison sentence of former Illinois Governor George Ryan.

Durbin says Ryan has paid a price for his crimes by losing his pension and being separated from his wife.

Still, Durbin says he hasn't taken any action yet and doesn't know if he will.

Ryan is serving a six-year sentence for racketeering and other offenses.

The one-term Republican governor put state lease contracts in the hands of his friends,

He also stopped a bribery investigation and used state resources to run his campaigns.

Mr. Durbin did not give much thought to how the people that elected him felt..My hope is that people do not forget how he felt the need to put the Ryans above those folks that elected him..Geo. Ryan betrayed the trust of the folks of Illinois--now I feel that Mr. Durbin also betrayed my trust..

The government should be looking at releasing people that they have wrongly imprisoned such as Bill Kennedy, (www.justiceforkennedy.com)to consider for release and let the criminals do their due time.

I think that george ryan should serve all his time. He knew the risk he was taking with his criminal acts. No one else gets released early and so what he loses his pension and humuliated. That comes with incarceration.

How many Illinois governors does it take to change a lightbulb? Answer: You're not allowed to change your own lightbulbs in prison. HA HA!

my son is in prison and had lost things because of his crime. He won't be able to get a commutation. Why should George Ryan get released early? He did the crime, now he has to do the time.

I would be glad to have Ryan's sentence commuted if we can just replace him with Governor Bag of Chips.

not a smart political move by Durbin. he will never hear the end of it if he seeks re-election.
