Greatest Generation Author and NBC Anchor Tom Brokaw took Downing's place tonight as the keynote speaker.
Mike Dimmick was also there to emcee the event. Before the dinner, Mike caught up with Brokaw.

"The reason I think we responded to him, is there was none of that bravado stuff. He wasn't pounding on his chest and telling us war stories. He was always there to help us however he could. Here's a guy who had been a four star general, commanded troops under fire." Brokaw said. "And he would go to Iraq with us or be in a briefing room, and kind of lean over and take us through what we needed to know about what was going on."
