A local doctor says there are some simple steps parents should follow when putting a baby down to sleep.

Dr. Dan O'Brien, from the Children's Hospital says parents should only allow their baby to sleep in a crib...not a couch, cushion, or adult bed.

Dr. O'Brien said, "For the sleeping you should always be on your back no matter what first and foremost and then there's a campaign by the American Academy of Pediatrics that entitled just to sleep on their back. So the entire time they're in their crib they should be on their back."

Dr. O'Brien suggests babies get as much time on their belly during the day to strengthen their upper body.

Thank You so much for putting DR O'Brien on tv to tell people not to have baby sleep in adult bed, They should aways go on there back and in there own crib. I'm a SIDS mom I lost my son Christopher 28 yrs ago. I buried him 28 yrs ago today. So to here all this stories lately of the babies dying my heart goes out to them but they should not of had them in there beds.I wish there was some way we could get the parents to not put the babies in bed with them. I would like to talk to DR O'Brien .
