Strip Club Move Stirs Concern

New Home for Strip Club

By Denise Jackson

One Peoria city council member hopes there will be enough votes for a major downtown development project.
One important piece of the puzzle involves finding a new home for Big Al's strip club.
But not everyone is excited about the move.

Attorney Murvel Pretorius Junior's law firm sits adjacent to property on Hamilton Boulevard that could become the new home for Big Al's strip club.
Pretorius says he's concerned about litter being strewn in his parking lot and the potential for problems.

"We really don't think this is an appropriate thing. We're opposed to it on behalf of our employees with concern for our property values and it's just out of character with everything around it," Pretorius said.

Al Zuccarini owns Big Al's strip club plus two other bars in the 500 block of Main Street.
City Council member Eric Turner says Zuccarini is looking at two locations to relocate...property across the street from Big Al's plus the building in the 400 block of Hamilton.
Turner says Zuccarini's move is critical to a redevelopment project near the Hotel Pere Marquette.

"As one councilman I have to do those things that are in the best interest of the city at large. I don't know exactly what's gonna happen but I'm willing to sit down and listen to both sides," he added.

Turner says the project could bring several hundred jobs plus extra tax revenue for the city.

Right now city officials are not saying much about the downtown development project.
A liquor commission hearing for Al Zuccarini is scheduled for Monday.
Zuccarini declined News 25's request for an interview.
Some attorneys at the Hamilton street location say they have long–term leases with the building owner, but don't know much about the project.

It sound's to me it's just another way for peoria to get rid if the strip club. They have been against the club for years but couldn't do anything about it because it was there before the law about strip club's was changed. But now they have found a way around it. Iam sure that's what this is all about.
