Schock Speaks

In a July trial, Congressional candidate Aaron Schock's father testified he fell victim to sham trusts and financial packages...

Although the Schocks were not at fault, it revealed the 18th District Republican candidate, a notary public at the time, postdated documents for his parents; and that's giving his opponents something to talk about.

"I am today calling on the Peoria County State's Attorney to fully investigate the scope of these disturbing revelations." 18th District Democratic Congressional Candidate Colleen Callahan said.

Although Schock's family did not benefit from backdating the documents, it raises the possibility Schock committed official misconduct, a misdemeanor under state law.

"When you get a document notarized, you're verifying that in fact the person signing the document is that person." Schock said.

But the Deputy Director of Index for the Illinois Secretary of State says besides making sure the signature is official, " a notary is obligated to note the date of the signature...it's common practice."

Schock's opponents say the falsified documents speak to his character.

"Aaron frequently says voters should judge him on his past behavior. I couldn't agree more." Callahan said.

"Ultimately I think the voters are going to weigh in on factors such as independence, maturity and life experiences." Said Sheldon Schafer, the Green Party Candidate for the 18th District seat.

Schock says the documentation was an accident that happened when he was nineteen, and with almost three weeks till Election Day, his contenders are trying to smear his image.

"I think it's an act of desperation to go to this document over eight years ago and try and say, well somehow now, Aaron Schock is not qualified." Schock said.

Schock says he has been open and honest with his constituents throughout his career, and voters will see through the smog when they head to the polls.

To me, this action of taking a public oath as a notory public and then treating its duties so lightly by being ok with backdating documents and now calling it a "non-issue", points to someone that should not be granted a position of even higher public accountability and trust! Do voters really now want to put Aaron in a postion to oversee a 700 Billion dollar bail out plan? Think about it.

Colleen Callahan is grasping at straws. Can someone please find a bigger waste of time and energy and money. OH YEA, the name is Rod Blagojevich!
