Imagine seeing a room fully engulfed in flames.
Well imagination turned into reality during the Pekin Fire Department's open house Saturday.

Pekin Fire Chief Chuck Lauss said, "Flames were quickly extinguished and smoke lingered through the air during a mock fire simulation at Pekin Fire Station number one."

Hundreds of kids cast their eyes on demonstrators showing the vital role sprinklers play in battling a blaze.

Everyone seems to learn better by impact; you know we could go out and tell people about this but you really see it and that's what we wanted to five them today is the opportunity to see exactly what sprinklers do and they see the impact of that.

After the demonstration, kids from Pekin and surrounding communities got a closer look at the burned fire units.
Close to 600 people attended the fire department's open house to celebrate National Fire Prevention Week.
