UAW Picnic Brings Local Politicians

By Gina Ford

During the Labor Day Weekend... the political campaigns really kick into high gear with less than ... days left until the November Election.

Today at the UAW Hall in East Peoria a number of local politicians attended a Labor Day Picnic.

Area residents came to the UAW hall today to meet some of their local candidates.

Around 15 local politicians came to the Labor Day Picnic.
Many were discussing John McCain's Pick for his Vice Presidential running mate.

18th District Congressional Candidate Colleen Callahan says she hopes McCain chose a woman to be his running mate for the right reasons.

"To think that the choice is one who does not have experience in the capacity that he himself, McCain, has criticized Barak Obama for not having experience...surprised me" said Callahan.

Republicans say Sarah Palin is a staunch conservative.

She backs gun rights and opposes abortion rights.

But others are skeptical because of her short political career with little foreign policy experience.
