T-V shows like the Celebrity Apprentice and Oprah's Big Give have inspired a local 11-year-old girl to turn her grief into hope.
News 25's Syreeta Baker has the story.
This office on Court Street in Pekin is one of the places being used in 11 year old Megan Maloney's fight to stand up against cancer.
This is the story of the Maloney's.
Within the past year their family has lost three loved ones to cancer.
"Since I lost my grandmother and grandfather and uncle I figured that no family should have to go through the suffering and the pain," says Megan Maloney.
"Megan came to me and said Dad it's not right for a kid to have to go through this, or a family to have to go though this and she came up with the idea to tie the charity with the travel business," says Brad Maloney.
And from that came Charity Travel-dot-Com.
Where portion of the proceeds go to a customer's charity of choice.
"So if your booking hotel, rental car a resort vacation, airlines or cruises we donate 25-percent of the charity of your choice in your honor," says Brad Maloney.
This month Brad Maloney says he's pledging up to 50-percent of all commissions to Stand Up to Cancer; a nationally televised fundraising event in Hollywood, which is raising money for cancer research.
"There are more than 100 celebrities and 30 or 40 entertainers are going to out there. We've been invited as special guest of Stand Up to Cancer," says Brad Maloney.
Megan may be a guest in Hollywood, but her dreams are even bigger...
"Five years from now the word cancer is history. That we've found a cure for it and if anybody gets it, it can be gone," says Megan Maloney.
The Maloney's are flying out to Hollywood next Wednesday to participate in Stand Up To Cancer.
That event will air right here on W-E-E-K on September Fifth.
You can see more with Megan and her father Brad tomorrow night on News25 at Nine on My59.
