Fairbury residents are remembering the life of a 24–year old Fire Fighter who died in the line of duty last night.
The fire blazed through a home in Forrest, Illinois near Fairbury.
The Fairbury Fire Department is a little quieter.
A group of fellow volunteer fire fighters lost one of their comrades.
Fairbury Fire Chief LeRoy McPhearson said, "He was like a son to me and the fire department as a team. We're just going to miss him."
Volunteer Fire Fighter Brian Munz lost his life battling a house fire,
During the fire Munz fell through floor and into the basement.
Charred parts of the house remain in tact but Munz wasn't able to make it out on time.
McPhearson added, "He loved what he did he love fire fighting and died doing what he loved most: fire fighting."
One life lost but many more to be saved.
Some of the people who knew Brian attended the Fairbury Blood Drive and only had good things to say about him.
His neighbor Arlene Walters said, "He was just an all around good kid. He'd do anything you want, he'd just step up and do and it's just a terrible loss."
Adam Fehr waits to get his blood drawn to help save lives.
He went to high school with Munz.
He said, "He'd do anything, take off his shirt."
The Fire Department is honoring Munz by dressing the building with memorial bunting. He'll no longer put on a fire jacket but he will always be remembered.
Fehr said, "We're going to miss him a lot anytime you loose a team member it's really rough."
The fire chief says this is the department's first death on the job that he could remember.
The state's Fire Marshall is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Fire-fighters are a group as a whole. No matter what department you are a member on, your part of the group. As such, we all feel the sorrow when a member is lost. It is a sense that we are aware of, and that can happen to any brother / sister in the service. Brian died doing what he loved doing and that was serving his community and fellow men. May he rest in peace
