Motion for New Trial for Jeff Pelo

Tools

By Gina Ford

Almost one month after being found guilty on 35 counts of rape and sexual assault, Jeff Pelo's attorney has filed for an appeal.

Defense attorney Michael Rosenblat says Pelo's constitutional rights were violated.

In the 22 page document, Rosenblat makes dozens of claim including the lack of physical evidence linking Pelo to the crimes. He also argues the victim's descriptions were not credible as the varied, and Pelo was not found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Rosenblat attacked the credibility of the jury arguing one juror slept through closing arguments. Another juror, he says, wrote in an online blog that they felt unreasonable pressure to reach a verdict.

The former Bloomington Police Sergeant's sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 12th.
