State Representative Aaron Schock has serious concerns about Chicago getting a casino license to pay for the Governor's Capital construction plan. News 25's Tom McIntyre spoke with Schock about the stalemate in Springfield and this week's house session.
Schock says "Chicago wants it different. Chicago wants to own their license exclusively. The city of Chicago as it's own entity wants to own and operate the casino. Well, that's socialized gambling."
The Republican from Peoria goes on to say "All the other casinos in the state of Illinois are owned by private enterprises and pay a tax. The city of Chicago wants to own its casino license and operate it, which of course creates thousands of new jobs for the Chicago machine to employ their cronies and political workers within this new organization in the city of Chicago."
"And, it takes out of the hands of downstate taxpayers an equal share of the gambling revenue that should be shared throughout the state."
Tom McIntyre asks about this week's upcoming House session saying "Is that a long shot or just go down drink coffee and look at your computer kind of session."
Schock answered saying "My take is the democrat majority had 6 months to pass a balanced budget. They didn't do it and defied the constitution. They passed a budget that's arguably 2 billion dollars over revenue. They had six months to do it. Why now would they pass a balanced budget in two days?"
Any overrides in the house will need Senate support to take affect. Since the Senate won't be in session, any overrides made this week will likely be meaningless.
