Indecent Exposure Along Constitution Trail

By WEEK Producer

The Normal Police department has increased its presence along the constitution trail because of a series of incidents involving public nudity.

Police do not know at this time if there are one or more exhibitionists committing the crimes.

On a nice day it's easy to spot joggers, cyclists and people walking their dogs along the Constitution Trail...but recently, an unwelcome subject has been spotted along the path.

Brian Williams of the Normal Police Department said, "It's disorderly conduct right now, and these guys are considered exhibitionists and typically they don't go any further than that. It's for their own gratification. They're not looking for sexual assault, that's typically how it goes. It does not mean it won't happen, and you always want to be safe. But that's typically where they stop."

On Sunday two women– in separate incidents – noticed a man wearing a hat and no pants, exposing himself along the trail behind the Community Cancer Center.

Officer Williams said, "When she jogged past them, he did not have pants on. When she turned around to make sure she saw what she saw, he actually put on some black mesh shorts, so they've got clothes."

Exactly one week before that, a woman reported seeing a man exposing himself in the section of the trail near Shelbourne off Raab Road.
In November of last year two women reporting seeing a man masturbating on the trail at Virginia Avenue.

Which is why you will now see more Police Officers on bikes patrolling the trail.

Officer Bob Droege said, "Hopefully we're going to catch him, obviously police presence in any situation is going to help the situation, until we find out who it is and we catch him."

So far the suspect or suspects have only exposed themselves to women.
There are no reports of indecent exposure along the trail in Bloomington.

If you have any information about these incidents you're asked to call the Normal Police Department at 454–95–35.
