Pelo Trial Begins Monday

The highly anticipated rape trial of a former Bloomington Police Sergeant gets underway Monday. Jeffrey Pelo faces almost three-dozen charges for allegedly stalking and raping four women.

The sexual assaults date back to 2002. Pelo has been behind bars for nearly two years and has gone through three defense attorneys while awaiting trial.

The 43-year-old spent 17 years with the Bloomington Police Department before resigning last November.

Prosecutors believe Pelo stalked the women. In a search of his home, police found a mask and other items that link him to the crimes.

The defense attorney questions how the women could identify Pelo since the attacker wore a mask.

The trial at the McLean County Courthouse is expected to last at least four weeks.
