T-shirts And Teen Births

By News 25 Staff

A local organization is airing its dirty laundry to bring attention to teen births in Peoria County. The Children's Home hosted The Dirty Laundry Project today at the Shoppes at Grand Prairie.

The more than 340 t-shirts on display represent a teenage girl who gave birth in Peoria County in 2005. Young people in the area designed the shirts.

"We want parents to talk about this with their youth because we think it's crucial that it start at the home. We'd also like to heighten the community awareness about possible education that is out there for the youth if they'd like to seek resources," Jody Smith-Brown from The Children's Home says.

Organizers say by raising awareness, they hope to bring about positive change in the community. The Children's Home of Illinois is a non-profit social service organization serving children and families in the Peoria area.
