The Prairie Air Show isn't getting rave reviews from everybody.
Peoria Area Peace network members boycotted the air show out of what they say is a matter of respect for the skies.
In West Peoria Members of the Peoria Area Peace Network chose to fly kites in the sky... as their way of protesting the Prairie Air show.
"The kids love it the grown ups love it, but it's a massive waste," says Jack Ryan.
Peace activist Tonya Sneed agrees.
But Sneed's main issue is what she says the planes at the air show represent.
"To us maybe they represent entertainment to Americans but to many people in countries like Iraq and Afghanistan they represent terror."
Outdoor educator Dominica Rogers says the air show is not about politics.
It's an event where the average person can get a closer look at the planes and a better perspective on the men and women who defend this country.
"Enjoying this and see how the planes fly is very educational and to restrict that just because of pollution in the skies in my eyes it's not very good."
The air show has been a "must-see" for area residents like Peter Loncke. One main reason is because Loncke's a Master Sergeant in the Belgium Air Force.
"It's always great to see the planes close.
Even after 37 years of service it's still great I would stay forever. I love the old airplanes."
"This shows what goes on with the military and how they work.
I think its actually good for people to see that," says Dominica Rogers.
While the air show will continue with its tradition of fire shooting trucks and their death defying stunts...The Peoria Area Peace Network is starting a kite flying tradition of its own.
