Some local residents have bigger concerns about what's being put in the ground, hazardous waste. Members of the Seven Circles and the Sierra Club held up signs Saturday showing their opposition towards the Peoria Disposal Company. PDC just received a 10-year permit from the state to stay in operation.

"We were very disappointed to hear that the state was proposing to do that. I think the public here has made it perfectly clear the decision has already been made and I don't think it is fair," Eliida Lakota says.

The hazardous waste landfill was scheduled to close in 2009. While it won't be able to store any of the waste after then, PDC will be able to treat it. The group picketed along a road in Edwards near the hazardous waste landfill.
