Illinois Soldier Dies In Iraq

A solider from Illinois died in Iraq yesterday as part of the Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The Department of Defense announced tonight Private First Class Shane D. Penley died April 6 at Patrol Base Copper, Iraq, from wounds suffered while on duty at a guard post.

The 19-year-old from Sauk Village, Illinois, was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

The incident is under investigation.
